When you visualize Eric Clapton, you see a man leaning forward into this guitar that rests on his lap. A guitar that is well-played and by a musician who is able to move smoothly from acoustical to electric guitar with fingers that are more than nibble; fingers that have been playing a guitar since he was 13 years of age. Eric Clapton is on the higher-end of the baby-boomer generation because he was born on March 30, 1945 to a very young Patricia Molly Clapton.

Eric Clapton

His mother was so young, the grandparents became his parents, and his mother was thought of as his sister. His parent introduced him to music and at the age of 13, Eric Clapton was given a guitar. The Eric Clapton Biography on the official Eric Clapton website basically says that he was in love with guitar playing and the blues being sung in the United States by legends B.B. King, Muddy Waters, and others; giving up on his more traditional schooling subjects in the English educational system.

Fortunately for the world, Eric Clapton joined his first band when he was a 17 year-old living in London. The name of that band was The Roosters. Destiny found him when he joined the Yardbirds in 1963 and earned a nickname of Slowhand. He quit the band after the Yardbirds opted for a more commercialized sound with the release of the song “For Your Love.” Instead, Eric Clapton songs are based on his passion, singing the blues. Joining the next band called the Bluesbreakers, and eventually to join the band Cream where his shooting star was sent out of the park.

Finally, after the many requisite bands joined, Eric Clapton founded the group named Blind Faith, followed by another group, the Dominos, which did not have the success he wanted. The tortured musician of incredible ability did find himself depressed and into hopeless drug addiction. The heroin addiction lasted about three years. Thankfully, he would have a second coming and after the death of his young son, Conor, he recorded a song for this child, “Tears in Heaven,” that became a commercial hit for him. He was to record with one of his iconic music legends B.B. King among many well-known music stars.

He is now a music legend and has many Grammy Awards. What has come out of his dark side with addiction is that he opened a rehabilitation center called Crossroads Centre in 1998. The Eric Clapton Biography came out in October of 2007. If you want more information on Eric Clapton tour dates you can see them on his website along with a host of albums for sale that have Eric Clapton songs and an equivalent array and diverse collection of DVDs. If you have never heard Eric Clapton songs, then you should make sure you either go to a concert or buy an album.
